The Commonwealth Government has established a national register to record the details of those members of the Australian public who have been exposed to asbestos fibres/dust.
Many people come in contact with asbestos containing material (ACM), such as asbestos cement sheet (ACS) and asbestos cement corrugated roofing material (ACCRM), on a regular basis – millions of Australian homes and buildings contain or are built out of ACM. When asbestos containing material starts to deteriorate, is damaged, cut, drilled or interfered with, asbestos fibre/dust is released, it’s then when it becomes dangerous. For more comprehensive information visit the Asbestos Awareness page.
If you have been exposed to asbestos fibre/dust, whether it be during work, doing home renovations, or purely minding your own business, and would like to register your exposure to asbestos fibres/dust, please log on to the National Asbestos Exposure Register website and follow the instructions:
The National Asbestos Exposure Register is administered by the Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency.
